A serenata is the simplest thing we do and often the most memorable. A few musicians, a few songs, delivered to one person at a specific address at a specific hour.

It still works because it is genuinely personal in a way almost nothing else is anymore.

Where the tradition comes from

The serenade has been part of Mexican celebration for generations — songs delivered outside a home, usually late at night or just before dawn, for a birthday, an anniversary, an apology or a proposal.

The form has barely changed, because it never needed to.

Choosing the hour

Traditionally, las mañanitas are sung at dawn on a birthday. The late-night serenata, around ten or eleven, is more common now and works just as well.

Pick the hour that fits the person. Someone who wakes at five will love the dawn version. Someone who does not, will not.

Picking the songs

Three to five songs is the classic length — long enough to be a real moment, short enough to stay a surprise rather than a concert.

Las mañanitas for a birthday, a ranchera that means something to the two of you, and one more the person has loved for years. That is a complete serenata.

The practical details

Confirm the exact address, including which door or window. Confirm who else is home. Confirm parking, because a band unloading in the wrong spot ends a surprise fast.

We coordinate by text on the night so the arrival lands to the minute rather than the half hour.

Where else a serenata works

Front doors are traditional, but we also deliver serenatas to restaurants, workplaces and family gatherings.

The only real requirement is somewhere we can stand and play — and someone who is not expecting us.
